CleanSlate’s New Medication Treatment Center in Racine, Wisconsin Increases Much-Needed Access to Addiction Treatment

Racine, WI – CleanSlate, a national leader in medication treatment for addiction, is now seeing patients by appointment or walk-in at its new center in Racine, Wisconsin. The center, located at 5439 Durand Ave., Suite 103, marks CleanSlate’s third outpatient addiction medicine center in Wisconsin, along with Glendale and Waukesha, and the company’s 48th across eight states and Washington, D.C. “I’m excited to be a part of CleanSlate’s opening in Racine because the need for our services is so tremendous here,” said Dana Thomson, Center Manager for CleanSlate’s center in Racine. “We’re pounding the pavement in the community right now, educating people about medication treatment and helping to decrease the stigma around addiction. It’s clear to me that we can make a real difference here.”

Sandwiched between Milwaukee and Chicago, Racine is located along a direct pipeline for drug trafficking that flows through two major metropolitan areas. CleanSlate’s entrance into Racine adds a much needed resource to a community that has been hard-hit by the opioid epidemic and is short on treatment support, with more state funds and local attention directed towards nearby Kenosha County instead.

Having treated more than 30,000 patients over the past decade, CleanSlate’s program of care includes appropriate medication treatment prescribed by licensed medical providers, as well as clear accountability and supportive counseling. With more than 9,000 active patients across 48 centers nationwide, the medical group is aggressively growing its footprint to expand much-needed access to medical care for addiction.

Given the dearth of treatment options and support in Racine, CleanSlate’s opening has already been met warmly from a community clamoring for more access to treatment. CleanSlate’s approach is to work closely with community partners, other healthcare providers, counseling centers, health insurance networks, government officials and local communities to coordinate in the battle against the opioid epidemic.

Thomson brings years of experience as a Center Manager of CleanSlate’s Glendale, Wisconsin center to Racine, and she feels strongly that CleanSlate fulfills the values it espouses. As just one example, Thomson recalls the experience of one patient who came to CleanSlate when she was eight months pregnant. Her insurance company didn’t allow CleanSlate to provide services because the company was out of network. “We helped her work through her insurance issues so that she could remain with us,” said Thomson. “The baby was born healthy, we helped her with DCS, and now this patient is maintaining her recovery and seeing us monthly. She is working with our Care Coordinator and the court system to get her other kids back. We are so excited to help with all aspects of this patient’s recovery for a full life.”

“Every day I enjoy my job because I see a smile and see some hope in someone’s eyes,” Thomson continued. “We provide that to them at CleanSlate.”

Michelle Nerdrum, an MA/MR at CleanSlate, knows from personal experience how important the new center is for Racine. “I am affected personally after losing many people I have known,” she said. “Most recently, my niece has been lost to this epidemic. I am truly grateful that we have opened here because the resources are so limited and the need is so great.”

For Capelli-Scheidt, joining CleanSlate’s new Wisconsin center is also a personal experience. “I was born and raised here, and am now raising my own family in Racine,” she observed. “It means so much to me to work here and fight to make a difference against the opioid epidemic that is hurting my hometown community.”
