Amid State of Emergency, Two New Outpatient Addiction Treatment Centers Come to South Florida

CleanSlate Expands Unique Physician-led Effort to Fight the Opioid Epidemic in South Florida; Commits to Working with All Insurers so Treatment is Available to All in Need

MIAMI GARDENS and PLANTATION, Fla. CleanSlate Centers, the national leader in office-based opioid treatment (OBOT), today announced it is expanding its presence in South Florida to bring greater access to effective addiction treatment for patients living in an area that has been particularly devastated by the opioid epidemic.

“People are dying and families are suffering in Florida, leaving communities severely impacted,” said Gregory Marotta, President and CEO of CleanSlate Centers. “Gov. Scott joined the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in declaring a state of Public Health Emergency around the opioid epidemic in Florida for a reason. The need for a different approach to managing this disease and increasing access to safe, effective treatment is clear.”

The two outpatient centers – located in Miami Gardens at 5901 Miami Gardens Drive; and in Plantation at 4101 NW 4th St., Suite 401 – began seeing patients on November 27. They join CleanSlate’s Tampa location to bring the total number of CleanSlate centers to three in Florida, a state which saw a 35-percent increase in opioid-related overdose deaths in 2016 and is currently one of just 12 states on which the U.S. Attorney General’s Opioid Fraud and Abuse Detection Unit is focused.

Company officials are actively pursuing contracts with all commercial insurance plans and government payors in Florida. Their goal is to ensure that anyone seeking care is able to receive it.

“The number of deaths from opioid addiction in Florida has almost doubled in the past 10 years, to more than 5,000 deaths in 2016,” said Maria Russo-Appel, M.D., Eastern Division Medical Director for CleanSlate. “Opioid addiction is best treated as what it is – a chronic disease – and we hope to reduce the number of opioid-related deaths through our two new centers.”

CleanSlate staff from the new Florida centers will be actively involved with community efforts to combat the local opioid epidemic. Together with other quality providers, CleanSlate will provide an alternative to the rampant fraud plaguing Florida’s treatment community.

“This disease cannot be fought alone,” said Marotta, “We look forward to deepening our relationships in the South Florida community as we stand side-by-side as partners, working together to beat back an epidemic that does not discriminate.”

Now with 32 centers across the country, CleanSlate continues to build on a nearly decade-long track record that includes treating more than 25,000 patients in some of the states hit hardest by the opioid epidemic. With approximately 7,000 active patients today, the national medical group continues to underscore its commitment to expanding access to those in need of treatment by aggressively growing its footprint.

“Thousands of patients across the country turn to CleanSlate for opioid and alcohol addiction treatment in a comfortable outpatient environment with a full-time, dedicated team of physicians and advanced-practice clinicians,” said Russo-Appel. “We give patients hope and help those suffering achieve the life they want and deserve.”

The award-winning CleanSlate program of care includes individualized treatment plans for each patient, consisting of appropriate medication-assisted treatment prescribed by providers, clear accountability and supportive counseling. In Pennsylvania, the company’s centers have been designated as Centers of Excellence by the state’s governor, based on clinicians’ abilities to work with behavioral health, primary care and other partners to provide integrated whole-person, evidence-based treatment.
